Career opportunities — personal job leads

Two warm job leads Daniel surfaced (2026-07-20), documented here per his call to fold them into biz/. These are potential full-time employment — distinct from the agency pipeline in PROSPECTS.md, and material because either could reshape the whole side-agency premise (the model assumes the day job stays; see BUSINESS-MODEL.md → "side income first"). Researched via public sources; observed vs inferred/unverified flagged.

1. "New bank in Limpopo" — via Hector Bartlett (school friend) ⚠️ UNVERIFIED

Daniel's school friend Hector Bartlett told him he's involved in starting a bank in Limpopo with a large dev team and suggested Daniel consider joining.

  • The specific venture is NOT publicly documented. No 2024–2026 SARB / Prudential Authority licensing announcement, news coverage, or hiring notice for a new/mutual/ co-operative bank or banking fintech based in Limpopo with a dev team. If real, it's pre-announcement/stealth, privately run, or "bank" is looser than a licensed bank. This is a genuine gap, not a search miss.
  • Hector Bartlett is a real, credible fintech figure (identity match unconfirmed). A public Hector Bartlett is an operator/investor at One Day Yes (onedayyes.vc), an early-stage VC backing African female founders — explicitly a fund, not a bank. Bio: "led teams backed by Sequoia, Accel, SoftBank, and Ribbit" (Ribbit = marquee fintech VC); University of Edinburgh; listed as a Managing Partner. Contact hector@onedayyes.vc, linkedin.com/in/hectorbartlett. One Day Yes's portfolio is fintech-heavy (Kwara — core banking software; Cashi, Aku — payments), so he clearly operates in banking-tech.
    • Location is ambiguous: one snippet tags him to Greater Giyani (Limpopo); others say Cape Town. Name isn't unique — treat the identity match as plausible, not confirmed.
  • SA context: the current new-bank wave (OM Bank, Postbank, YWBN/Nthabeleng Likotsi Mutual, Revolut applying, Lesaka+Bank Zero) is none Limpopo-based. The famous Limpopo bank was VBS Mutual Bank (Venda) — liquidated 2018 after fraud; no documented successor.

Read: person is real and genuinely fintech-connected (lends the tip some plausibility), but the venture is unfindable publicly. To size it, get from Hector: the entity name, whether it's SARB-licensed (or applying), who's funding it, team size/location, and the tech stack. Until then, treat as an interesting but unquantified lead.

2. xneelo — via Kirsty Slater (cousin) ✅ REAL, HIRING

Daniel's cousin Kirsty Slater works at xneelo and said he could reach out about a job.

  • What it is (observed): SA's largest independent web-hosting / business-enablement company, formerly Hetzner (Pty) Ltd / Hetzner SA; co-founded 1999, rebranded to xneelo July 2019 (to avoid confusion with the German Hetzner Online). Hosts 500,000+ websites.
  • Size & location: 300 employees (OfferZen bands 201–500). HQ Durbanville, Cape Town; data centres Samrand/Centurion + Newlands, second Samrand DC under construction (Oct 2026). Also cited teams in Canada, Ukraine, India.
  • Products: shared hosting, dedicated servers, colocation, domain registration, and a newer xneelo Cloud IaaS.
  • Tech stack (from OfferZen profile — may be partly dated): Ruby on Rails, Node.js, PHP, C#, JS front-end; PostgreSQL/MySQL/MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Sidekiq; AWS EC2, Docker, nginx, Ansible/Puppet, Jenkins/Travis, New Relic. Culture: "kind and competent people," mentorship, self-learning. Perks: uncapped ("consensus") leave, flexible hours, profit-sharing, medical/retirement/parental. Interview: informal chat → Head of Software Eng + practice leads → technical interview → code-pairing session.
  • Hiring — yes, and relevant: careers at xneelo.co.za/careers + xneelo.recruitee.com. Currently live: Software Engineer (Remote, base Durbanville) + Technical Customer Support (Hybrid). Recently advertised: Senior Full Stack Web Developer – Cloud Services; Backend Systems Engineer (Ruby/Linux, ~5 yrs, remote SA). Runs remote/hybrid SA dev roles on a mainstream web stack that fits Daniel's background; a cousin's warm referral is a realistic route in. Note on fit with the agency plan

Both are full-time roles. The agency model (BUSINESS-MODEL.md) is explicitly side income while the day job stays — so taking either would mean deciding whether the agency continues as a nights/weekends venture, pauses, or folds. Worth holding that trade-off in view before either conversation goes far. (Also: the hospitality-employer separation that constrains the agency is a Nsuna constraint — neither of these employers carries it.)
