Therapist network map โ€” warm paths into the shortlist (2026-07-30)

Companion to 2026-07-30-therapist-shortlist.md (who to approach) and the operating half, process/06-outbound-call-sprints.md (how). This file answers one question: which of these prospects can be reached warm instead of cold, and who among them knows whom.

Why it matters: process/01-client-acquisition.md drops cold email (0.215% end-to-end, ~30โ€“70 h/client โ€” fatal against the ~15 h/wk ceiling) and makes referral the ignition channel, with seeds limited to berlein + aerias. A cold therapist list is therefore close to worthless as-is. Its value depends entirely on how much of it can be converted to warm โ€” which is what follows.

Evidence discipline. Rows are tagged ๐ŸŸข VERIFIED (quoted from the practitioner's own site or a primary source), ๐ŸŸก PLAUSIBLE (structural โ€” shared institution, town, or host; a hypothesis with a named cheap test), or ๐Ÿ”ด UNVERIFIED. Same university or same town is not evidence that two people know each other. Every ๐ŸŸก has a test that costs one question.

1. The two assets Daniel already owns

He has two HPCSA-registered practitioner clients. In a profession that runs on inter-practitioner referral, supervision groups, and shared rooms, that is the whole game.

Alexa Berlein โ€” berleinpsych.com (client)

๐ŸŸข Clinical Psychologist, practising Rosebank, Cape Town (WC 7700). ๐ŸŸข Trained Stellenbosch University (undergrad) โ†’ UCT (Honours) โ†’ University of Pretoria (Masters). ๐ŸŸข Listed on Psychology Today ZA. ๐ŸŸข Scope: adolescents + adults; anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma/PTSD, grief; medical psychology (chronic illness, amputee, pain).

Her three training institutions map onto three separate clusters in the shortlist:

Her institution Cluster it touches Confidence
University of Pretoria (Masters โ€” the cohort that matters; small, ~10โ€“15 people, intense) Pretoria ed-psych cluster โ€” Rianie De Bruin, Liizl Miller, Dr Annalize Green ๐ŸŸก cohort overlap plausible; UP Masters cohorts are tiny โ†’ high hit-rate if years align
Stellenbosch University (undergrad) Winelands cluster โ€” Natalie Sadie (herself ๐ŸŸข Stellenbosch-affiliated since 2019), Somerset West play-therapy group ๐ŸŸก
UCT (Honours) + practising Rosebank Southern-suburbs CT โ€” Judy Grant (Claremont), physioscpt (Claremont โ€” existing lead) ๐ŸŸก geography is ๐ŸŸข (Rosebank and Claremont adjoin)

Test, one question each: "Do you know any of these people โ€” De Bruin, Miller, Green (Pretoria); Sadie (Stellenbosch); Grant (Claremont)?"

โš ๏ธ Ethics line โ€” do not cross. Ask Alexa about colleagues only. Never ask a psychologist about patients, and never ask her to introduce you to anyone she has a clinical relationship with. Colleague intros are ordinary professional courtesy; anything patient-adjacent is a POPIA and HPCSA problem and would cost the relationship.

Nadia Omidosu โ€” nadiaoedpsych.co.za (client, invoice drafted)

๐ŸŸข Educational psychologist, Centurion โ€” the exact sub-niche of the 10-strong ed-psych cluster. ๐Ÿ”ด Her affiliations, professional bodies, and supervision group are unresearched โ€” and shouldn't be researched. Just ask her; she's a paying client mid-relationship and the answer is one WhatsApp message.

๐ŸŸข Shared-host coincidence: her site sits on 169.239.218.61, and three prospects sit on 169.239.217.x โ€” the same provider range (see ยง3).

Secondary network nodes Daniel already has

Person Relevance Confidence
physioscpt (Nicole/Geron, Claremont) โ€” existing lead Allied health. If won, becomes the reference that unlocks Therapy in Action (ยง2) โ€” physio-to-physio is the same discipline, not a cold vertical jump ๐ŸŸก contingent on winning them
Ingrid Chadwick (aunt, Kliptown Youth Program) KYP is a youth NPO โ†’ its orbit is social workers, counsellors, ed-psychs. Already flagged as a network vector, not a sale ๐ŸŸก
Marcelle Liebenberg (Bree Media House, CT brand/content agency) Client-facing CT agency; therapists need brand + photography. Two-way referral loop already in progress ๐ŸŸก

2. โญ The single best network find: Therapy in Action

๐ŸŸข therapyinaction.co.za โ€” multidisciplinary allied-health practice, Stellenbosch (opened 2010) + Somerset West (2013), serving Helderberg/Overberg.

๐ŸŸข Team (as published): 6 physiotherapists, 7 occupational therapists, 1 practice manager, 3 administrators, 2 clinical psychologists in association, plus dieticians, a speech therapist, an orthotist and wound-care nurses based at the practice. Associates include Elbert de Wit (psychologist) and Imke Oosthuizen (speech therapist).

๐ŸŸข Natalie Sadie (ranked lead #7) states she works "in association with Therapy in Action, Stellenbosch and Somerset West".

Why this is the highest-leverage node in the entire map:

  • ~20 practitioners, one practice manager, two towns โ€” a single relationship reaches the lot, and a practice manager is a named, reachable, non-clinical decision-maker who is not in session all day (ยง4 explains why that matters enormously).
  • It is allied health โ€” the same discipline as physioscpt, so a physioscpt win is directly transferable proof rather than a vertical jump.
  • It plausibly contains or overlaps the Somerset West play-therapy greenfield cluster (Gerda Kriel, Lizelle Fryer, Elretha Bartlett, Heloise Breytenbach-Uys, Elana Rocher) โ€” ๐ŸŸก test: check the practice's our team page against those five names.
  • Group practices were deprioritised in July for having a diffuse decision-maker. That rule is right for a 2-partner practice; it is wrong here โ€” 20 practitioners with a dedicated practice manager is a concentrated buyer, not a diffuse one.

Natalie Sadie is a referral hub in her own right

๐ŸŸข From her own site: "in association with Stellenbosch University since January 2019"; "in association with several schools, learning/tutoring/wellness centers, universities, clinics"; practised at the Centre for Student Counselling and Development (SU); affiliated with ER24, SADAG, Lifeline, Childline, Rape Crisis, GBV Command Centre.

She ranked weakest on Repaint pain (fairly modern site, gmail) โ€” but she is the best-connected single individual on the list. Reframe her: not a build target, a doorway. Even at a small job or none, she is worth the conversation.

3. Prospect-to-prospect links โ€” who knows whom

๐ŸŸข Verified structural links

Link Evidence Why it's useful
Natalie Sadie โ†” Therapy in Action โ†” Somerset West / Stellenbosch Her site names the association One intro โ†’ ~20 practitioners (ยง2)
Judy Grant โ†’ "SA Medical Specialists" network Her footer: "hosted by Personalised Promotions in association with SA Medical Specialists" Her site is part of a managed network of practitioner sites. See โš ๏ธ below
Gqeberha micro-market โ€” Buchanan, Olivier, Slabbert, Furniss, Breedt, Mitchell, Yendall 7 practitioners found in one mid-size city; Buchanan + Olivier are both counselling psychs Small market, referrals inevitable. One PE win is highly likely to travel โ€” and Buchanan (best craft before/after) is here
Charlene Wessels โ€” shared professional rooms "Unit 5 Medius House, Loerie Park, 15 Paul Kruger street, Durbanville" โ€” a medical suite, not a home office Everyone else in Medius House is a co-located prospect
Wessels โ†” Melissa Morton Both ๐ŸŸข Durbanville (Morton from the July list) ๐ŸŸก same-suburb, possibly same rooms โ€” test: does Morton list a Medius House address?
Liizl Miller โ†’ SHIPยฎ Foundation (board 2006โ€“07) + HCPC (UK) registration Her own site A body-level node, plus a genuine UK link โ†’ the only ICP-B/INTL bridge on the list
Christine Slabbert โ†’ PsySSA + BHF Her own site Confirms the body-level channel in ยง5 is real

โš ๏ธ On "SA Medical Specialists" / samedicalwebsitedesign.co.za: a Cape Town agency specialising in medical-practice websites was already captured in the 2026-07-24 Firecrawl scan โ€” 8-step process, SEO + copywriting, medical-niche positioning. Whether it is the same operator as Judy Grant's "SA Medical Specialists" is ๐ŸŸก unconfirmed โ€” verify before acting. Either way it is a direct competitor in exactly this niche (like Kea Logic) and cuts two ways: a displacement incumbent, or a white-label partner (ICP-C) whose whole client base is Daniel's ICP-A. Do not pitch against it before confirming what it actually is.

๐ŸŸก Shared hosting โ€” same provider, not proof of a shared webmaster

Same /24 means the practitioners bought from the same SA hosting reseller. It is weak-to-moderate evidence of a shared webmaster and must not be pitched as such.

Range Sites Read
169.239.217โ€“218.x annalizegreen.com, samfurniss, olivierpsychology, clinepayne + nadiaoedpsych (Daniel's client) Same provider as Nadia. ๐ŸŸก Cheap test with real upside: ask Nadia who set her site up โ€” if a named person recurs, that's one webmaster holding four prospects
154.0.166โ€“169.x christineslabbert, santel, charlenewessels Large SA host (154.0.x is a major SA provider range) โ€” most likely just a popular host
197.242.144.x lmiller, bloemfonteinpsychologist Same range, different cities โ†’ probably coincidence

๐ŸŸข Incumbent web suppliers (each = a displacement target or a partner)

Extracted from footer credits. One supplier holding several practices is one conversation instead of five.

Supplier Holds Note
Personalised Promotions / SA Medical Specialists psychologist-capetown.co.za (Judy Grant) Medical-niche network โ€” see โš ๏ธ above
Cybercare IT Solutions santel.co.za An IT company doing a website โ€” classic mismatch
FormSnap v.3.0.11 by Yabdab Inc. lmiller.co.za A 2000s-era form script โ€” corroborates the legacy dating

Standing lesson: a stale copyright + a named agency = a relationship that has lapsed. Those are the softest displacement targets on the list (Olivier ยฉ 2015, Asnath ยฉ 2017), because nobody's feelings are attached any more.

4. The operational fact that shapes every call

Therapists are in 50-minute sessions all day. They cannot answer a phone, and a missed call from an unknown number reads as a patient trying to reach them โ€” which is both intrusive and, for them, an ethical loose end.

Consequences, and they are not optional:

  • WhatsApp-first, call-second. Already the standing rule for ICP-A in process/01 ("WhatsApp click-to-chat sits above the form"); for this vertical it is near-absolute. A WhatsApp message is read between sessions; a cold call is an intrusion.
  • The reachable windows are the 10-minute inter-session gaps (on the hour / ten past), before ~09:00, 13:00โ€“14:00, and after ~17:00.
  • The practice manager / admin is the reachable human at any group practice โ€” and is paid to take exactly this call. Therapy in Action has one; solo practitioners don't.
  • Never leave clinical-sounding voicemail. Identify as a supplier immediately, so nobody wonders if it's an emergency.

โš ๏ธ HPCSA advertising rules โ€” verify before building or pitching. Health-professional advertising in SA is constrained (canvassing/touting, and patient testimonials in particular). This bears directly on delivery โ€” a therapist site may not be able to use the review/testimonial social proof that a normal SMB site leans on โ€” and on marketing, since a case study quoting a practitioner may need her sign-off on wording. ๐Ÿ”ด Unverified โ€” confirm against the current HPCSA ethical rules before promising testimonial features or publishing client metrics. Cheapest route: ask Alexa and Nadia what they believe they're allowed to publish; they live under these rules.

5. Body-level channels (many practitioners at once)

Channel What it is Cost read
โญ PsySSA 30th Annual Congress โ€” 13โ€“15 Oct 2026, Emperor's Palace, JHB Theme: "Psychology in Transition: Humanity, Technology, and the Future of Care", with a practitioner stream and an explicit AI-and-digital-practice sub-stream. ๐ŸŸข Christine Slabbert is a PsySSA member Unusually well-aimed at what Daniel actually does. A talk in the AI/digital sub-stream is credibility in front of the whole profession. โš ๏ธ But weigh against the ceiling: BNI was dropped at 75โ€“100 h/yr. A congress is a decision, not a default โ€” and abstract/volunteer deadlines are near (volunteer applications close 31 July 2026)
PsySSA CPD Workshop Series 2026 ("A Dozen Plus One") PsySSA is an HPCSA-accredited CPD provider Practitioners must earn CPD points โ†’ these are where they gather. Attend-and-listen is cheap; sponsoring is not
CBTASA โ€” cbtasa.co.za/locate-a-therapist Modality body with a therapist locator Another prospect directory + a body-level entry
Psychology Today ZA / TherapyRoute Where the greenfield cluster rents presence (~R199/mo) Not a partner โ€” the thing being displaced. It's the pitch, not the channel
SADAG, Lifeline, Childline, Rape Crisis, ER24 ๐ŸŸข Natalie Sadie is affiliated with all of these NPO-adjacent; a credibility/goodwill surface, not a sales channel

6. What this changes about the shortlist

The shortlist ranked prospects on Repaint pain. Network position re-ranks them, and in two cases inverts the order:

Prospect Pain rank Network rank Verdict
Therapy in Action wasn't on the list #1 ~20 practitioners, a non-clinical decision-maker, allied-health = physioscpt-transferable. Add to PROSPECTS.md
Natalie Sadie #7 (weakest) #2 Best-connected individual on the list. A doorway, not a build
Edith Buchanan #1 mid (๐ŸŸข PE micro-market) Still the best craft before/after; a PE win should travel
Judy Grant July #5 high-but-blocked Her incumbent must be identified before any approach
Lisa Dales / Kelly Jacobs broken sites low No warm path โ€” and they don't need one. A dead site is its own introduction

The synthesis: run two tracks at once, not one. Broken sites justify a cold approach on their own merit (the defect is the intro). Everything else should wait for a warm path, because cold is a dropped channel here and the network work costs a couple of conversations. The sequencing is in process/06-outbound-call-sprints.md.

Honesty notes

  • The Alexa cohort links are hypotheses, not findings. Shared universities and adjacent suburbs are structural โ€” they raise the prior, nothing more. Each resolves with one question, which is exactly why Sprint 0 is one conversation rather than a research project.
  • Nadia's network is entirely unresearched, deliberately. She's a live client; asking beats scraping.
  • No LinkedIn / social-graph work was done. Alexa has a LinkedIn profile; mapping second-degree connections there would be the obvious next pass and would upgrade several ๐ŸŸก rows to ๐ŸŸข.
  • Firecrawl was down for this pass (see the shortlist's honesty notes), so Psychology Today ZA and TherapyRoute โ€” the two richest sources for who practises alongside whom โ€” were not harvested. Fixing it would materially improve this map.
